The Corruption Game
Corruption comes in many forms, but it's implementation is usually a combination of ignorance and government protecting goernment regardless of any law.

NEW BEDFORD, MA - The following audio and video clips demonstrate how the City Council and Mayor use a questionable parilmentary trick that is not allowed under the City Council's own rules and is a breach of the spirit of the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law.

This video shows 2 interesting events. Councilor Lynda Morad admits that the council has vote to eliminate the legally questionable late file agenda. Also, you will see Councilor Gonsalves close the meeting for the camera and then the meeting is continued on the paper record. The question is, what did they hide from the cameras?

Mystery Hole dig up and filled in on High School Property Print E-mail

NEW BEDFORD, MA - New Bedford High, one of several known contamination hot spots in New Bedford, which is under continual remediation efforts, often clandestinely; is again having mystery work done to the grounds. Tom Desrosiers, a local concerned citizen and member of the C.L.E.A.N environmental group happened by as some workers with the David White construction company removed two large loads of dirt and replaced the soil with more dirt. The workers were unaware of the reasons for the soil replacement and the final destination of the trucks of dirt. They also claimed not to know where the new soil came from. Just down the street, several teams of young people were engaging in soccer practice on a field known for it's high levels of Arsenic contamination. Good Government at work. See below for our Massholes of the week.

Helping Themselves to the Public Pot O' Gold Print E-mail

New Bedford, MA - OPINION — Stealing from the public is OK as long as you do it under the guise of a community project. Doesn't matter if the funds are raised by taxes or school children, just matters that there is a lot of it. The folks who engage in this monetary shenanigans are a colorful bunch and I betcha you elected them or they paid to convince you to elect their friends. Best part is, if they get caught, the worst that happens is they receive a mild thumping in the press and then it's back to the pot of public delights. The public soon forgets or soon loses interest to more important issues like Barack Obama's wife's designer clothes or whether their expected family dog is a Shitzue or a Yorkie.

Ocean Planning; New Bedford doesn't care Print E-mail

NEW BEDFORD, MA - Last night at the New Bedford public library, a public meeting was held representing two Massachusetts advisory committees, met with about three dozen people from the New Bedford area. Recently Deval Patrick and the state legislature created the state office(s) of Ocean Advisory Commission and Science Advisory Council who will be working with the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. Together, these offices were created to figure out how to utilize the coastal water of Massachusetts for either energy production or aquaculture. Their decisions, when made in late 2009, could have devastating consequences on New Bedford's defacto business of fishing and possibly open water previously used by fishing boats to windmills, tidal generators or large scale open ocean fish farms. Considering this, it was odd that the only representative of New Bedford's various governmental and regulatory bodies was Kathrine Rollins; Mayor Lang's dower office assistant. At the very least I expected our Harbor Development Commissioner, Kristin Decas, to at least peek her head in to provide proof that she even cares.

Mayor Lang whines like jilted donkey over regulatory flap Print E-mail

NEW BEDFORD, MA, OPINON — Again Mayor Lang is demonstrating his inability to lead without taking temper tantrums of a three year old. As I have said before, Scott Lang hood-winked us all with his charm and grandfatherly approach to New Bedford Politics. His failure is epitomized by his inability to maintain peace with other New Bedford governmental bodies and to take a policy loss without whining like a jilted donkey.
