NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — St. Luke's Hospital was notified at 11 a.m. of a hazardous materials situation in the New Bedford community. The incident happened at ABC Disposal, 1245 Shawmut Avenue, New Bedford.
Under the direction of the New Bedford Fire Department, St. Luke's Hospital began the process of decontaminating victims. As of 1 p.m. EDT, St. Luke's Hospital had received 33 patients — six patients by ambulance, three of whom were in critical condition, 26 patients by bus from the site, all of whom were in good condition. One EMS provider had been treated.
Some of the symptoms being seen were nausea, respiratory distress and dizziness.
In addition to the 33 victims brought to St. Luke's, another 22 victims were sent to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River — five by ambulance and 17 by bus. All were in good condition.

NEW BEDFORD, MA - All New Bedford registered Republicans are welcome and urged to attend a reorganizational meeting of the New Bedford Republican City Committee on Wednesday, August 5 at 6:30 pm at the famous Shawmut Diner (943 Shawmut Avenue at the intersection with Hathaway Road).
The New Bedford Republican City Committee will gather in order to reconstitute itself and elect new officers as Republicans prepare for the upcoming 2010 gubernatorial election season and April's Massachusetts Republican State Convention in Worcester. The MassGOP State Convention will be held on Saturday, April 17 at the DCU Center in Worcester and it will determine candidate ballot access and the Party's endorsements. Delegates to the State Convention will be elected by caucus with City Committee members serving as electors.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — The Senate's move to prohibit texting while driving perished in conference, although the measure may gather momentum outside the budget process. Senators added the texting ban as an outside section, deploying a policy-making technique the House has resisted in recent years. The House initiated the push for a motorist texting ban last session, but it died in the Senate. Its co-sponsor in the House was Transportation Committee chair Joseph Wagner.
