NEW BEDFORD, MA — Much of New Bedford is contaminated and most people who live here know it. The unfortunate thing is contaminated ground does not easily standout from uncontaminated property. And the negative health effects takes time, hence many don't perceive the urgency the same way they would perceive the urgency of a home invasion. The reality is that both scenarios cause life changing events. One happens over years and one happens in seconds. Hence home invasions are regarded as urgent and contamination is perceived a lower threat. Statistically though, contamination will change the lives of hundreds to thousands where as a home invasion affects one to a few.
